Last year, the 2007 Fore Gritz Memorial Golf Tournament was again the most successful year! We raised a little over $6,200 for Mary M. Parkes Asthma & Genesee Community College's Respiratory Care Department.

This past February, Mary M. Parkes Asthma Center for asthma, allergy, and pulmonary care completed a wall of dedication in memory Chris and all our fund raising to help in their great cause. The wall is inside about 20 feet long with a plaque hung on both ends. In between are all sorts of informational packets with the knowledge people need to know about what might be ailing them or others.

As well, this past May, at GCC graduation, we presented a plaque and a cash award given to Lyndsay Franklin, who exemplified the following characteristics:

· Sincerity
· Positive Attitude
· Integrity
· Passion for Life and Career
· Positive Outlook
· Superior patient care with a personal touch
· Sound Academics

We sincerely want to thank all the golfers, volunteers, and sponsors who made the tournament such a success last year. It is because of your continued support we are able to give back to our health care community in Christopher’s name.

A special thank you to all of the Sponsors:

Dear family and friends of Christopher J. Kowal,

Apologies for the tardiness of this note, but I wanted to be sure to extend my sincere appreciation for the honor that you all bestowed upon me by the presentation of the Christopher J. Kowal plaque and monetary award.  Receiving this award was an unexpected surprise, one which brought great pleasure and pride to my family.

Since graduation, I have been working at Strong Memorial Hospital orienting to all of the Intensive Care Units as well as the Emergency Department and Trauma Bay.  Once I am settled here at Strong, I plan to begin taking part-time courses towards obtaining my Bachelors in Business Degree.  With this degree, I hope to combine my love of martial arts with my love of medicine and open a school of martial arts for children with asthma, providing physical fitness, health education, and medical support.

The Respiratory Care program at Genesee Community College was a great experience for me.  The teachers were excellent, Linda was a great step-mom, and the amount of clinical experience gave a clear advantage over other programs.  When I took my certification exams and then again when I began working, I felt confident and prepared due to the extensive training and clinical time required by our program.

Thank you for your support of our program.  It really means a lot to us to know that there are people behind us who know how hard we work and how dedicated we are to our profession and to the community, just like Christopher.  I will do my best to uphold his standards of care in his honor and memory.

Sincerely,

 Gail Schultz, CRT
